G.B. Jones and Bruce LaBruce started a FAKE movement in a zine and it became real because people were STARVING for something angrier than assimilationist gay politics. That's the power of art as activism. The queer punks of the 80s and 90s looked at the mainstream gay community's desire to fit in and said: we don't WANT to fit in. We want to blow the whole thing up and build something better. Their spirit lives on every time a queer person refuses to make themselves palatable for straight comfort. Rage is valid. Rage is necessary. Rage is FASHION.

Before RuPaul's Drag Race made queer culture palatable for straight Netflix subscribers, there was a raw, furious underground that wanted to burn the whole system down. Queercore was punk for people punk forgot — queers who were too angry, too sexual, too political for even the mainstream gay community. This documentary traces the zines, the bands, the performance art, the absolute chaos of a movement that said: we don't want your acceptance, we want your FEAR. Honestly? Still the correct stance. Normalize taking up space loudly.
