David Is Homosexual (1976)

1976. The Campaign for Homosexual Equality made an educational film about a lonely gay man finding community, love and activism. The title alone — blunt, unapologetic, DAVID IS HOMOSEXUAL — is a whole political statement. In 1976, saying that plainly was radical. The word "homosexual" existed primarily in clinical and criminal contexts. To put it on a film and say "and here is his full, human life" was an act of defiance. I am obsessed with the fact this exists. Every rediscovered piece of queer history is a gift to the present.
