A lesbian teenager just wants to go to prom with her girlfriend. That's it. That's the whole crime. And an entire Indiana PTA loses its absolute MIND. The fact that this scenario isn't fictional — it has happened, over and over, in real school districts — is what gives this fizzy, sequin-soaked musical its actual bite. Meryl Streep eating scenery, Nicole Kidman doing kicks in heels, James Corden... existing. But at its heart: a young queer girl who deserves exactly what every other kid deserves. Representation matters, darlings. Especially to the 16-year-old in a small town who thinks they're alone.
